Bloomington resident Shelli Yoder, a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Indiana’s 9th Congressional District seat received an endorsement today from Pedro Roman, the President of the Indiana Latino Democratic Caucus and a Monroe County Human Rights Commissioner. “Amid a very competitive field of candidates I have decided to endorse Shelli Yoder for the 9th congressional district of Indiana,” said Roman.

“Shelli is compassionate, responsible and sensitive to the needs of our families. She opposes discrimination and is willing to protect our individual rights and civil liberties. Shelli is committed to extending health care to all and will preserve our freedom to choose treatments, including access to reproductive healthcare options.”

Roman continued, “Shelli will work to create better job opportunities so that people working for a living can enjoy a better quality of life, and she’ll support tax policies that protect low and middle income families.”

“On matters of foreign policy,” Roman noted, “Shelli supports reasonable and diplomatic measures and global partnerships with our international friends. And she favors accelerating the timetable for withdrawing combat forces in Afghanistan.”

“Moreover, I support Shelli’s compassionate and fair approach to immigration reform, and her support for the Dream Act. Shelli understands that immigration reform is not only an important matter of economic development, but also a necessary component of a just society that recognizes the dignity and worth of all persons. Shelli’s personal history and viewpoints reflect what is best about Hoosier values of community and inclusion.”

“For all these reasons, I have decided to endorse Shelli Yoder for the 9th Congressional district of Indiana, and I invite all members of our state Latino communities—several hundred thousand strong—to support Shelli as a compassionate and efficient leader who cares for what you do and how you contribute to your community, and not about where you come from or the color of your skin.”

Shelli Yoder’s key issues are creating jobs and expanding economic opportunity for all Hoosier families. Her plan includes increasing opportunities for worker training, funding for health research initiatives, and investing in infrastructure and green technologies. Yoder is one of five Democrats running in the 9th District race to unseat Todd Young this November. The Democratic Primary is May 8.
