Jobs and Economic Development
Guiding principle: Families in the 9th District need sustainable and good-paying jobs in the sectors that will define the 21st century economy: biotechnology innovation, renewable and green energy development, and infrastructure improvement.
Shelli will work with business, labor, and community groups to bring new 21st century jobs to our area. She will push to expand broadband technology to generate new telemedicine and on-line educational opportunities. Shelli will fight to make sure the 9th District gets its fair share of federal dollars that create new jobs. Her economic development plan will increase the minimum wage and provide job retraining to displaced workers. And, Shelli will fight to end tax breaks to corporations that send jobs overseas and, instead, provide incentives to companies that create jobs here in the U.S. Shelli believes companies that receive tax breaks should pay good wages.

Shelli’s Support for “Bring Jobs Home” Act
Shelli supports legislation pending in Congress that would cut taxes for companies that bring jobs and business operations back to America from other countries. The initiative, sponsored by Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Representative Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), also closes tax loopholes that reward companies that send jobs outside the country.
This is a commonsense approach to return jobs to America and to the 9th district. This law will give businesses sufficient incentive to recall jobs and bring them back to our country.
The bill, known as the “Bring Jobs Home” Act, would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to encourage job creation here and to discourage sending jobs to foreign countries. If passed, the law would give eligible firms a tax credit equal to 20 percent of the cost of relocating overseas jobs back to the U.S.
Shelli believes there is no more important issue than jobs for Hoosier families, and the Bring Jobs Home Act can do just that for Indiana by reversing the incentives that encourage companies to send jobs elsewhere. The return of solid, middle-class jobs to America is critical to make our economy strong again, and this law will provide the shot in the arm necessary to return prosperity to the United States.
