(Bloomington, IN) April 17, 2012 Democratic Congressional candidate Shelli Yoder leads the field of 9th District candidates in the all-important cash-on-hand category, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission Monday. The cash-on-hand figure is critical in the final weeks for voter-contact activities aimed toward undecided voters.

Yoder, who entered the race in February months after the other leading candidates, raised $33,590, but spent just $8,504, leaving her $25,086 in the bank. Meanwhile, Robert Winningham has $18,858 and Jonathan George has but $17,229 in the bank as of March 31, the end of the 1st quarter FEC filing period. According to FEC reports, Winningham has raised $80,946 overall while George raised $40,085, both spending the bulk of the funds raised on overhead and operational expenses. Neither of the other two candidates, John Miller or John Tilford, raised any money.

“I am grateful to all people who have joined this campaign in just a few short weeks since I announced my candidacy,” Yoder said. “I believe we have the momentum and the growing support to pull off the upset on May 8. No one predicted when I entered this race that I would have more money in the bank at this critical juncture than do my two leading competitors.”

In less than two months, the Yoder for Congress grassroots campaign has received 250 donations, not including generous in-kind donations, for a total of $29,716, or an average donation of $118.86. Sixty-five percent of those donations are under $100.

Yoder’s key issues are creating jobs and expanding economic opportunity for all Hoosier families. Her plan includes increasing opportunities for worker training, funding for health research initiatives, and investing in infrastructure and green technologies. Shelli is one of five Democrats running in the 9th District race to unseat Todd Young this November.

The Democratic Primary is May 8.
